Human Footprint: Our Role in Promoting Sustainable Development
Our life style and the choices we make as a consumer every day have a direct impact on the living conditions of thousands of people and on our environment. These choices create the world we live in, and reflect what we want the future of our planet to be made of. Do we want to live in a world of inequality, GMOs, dying oceans, dwindling resources, massive deforestation and ever increasing mountains of rubbish?
Most of us don't want to have anything to do with such a world and yet in our every day life we fail to take the appropriate actions. Why? A major obstacle is information: we either lack of awareness of the impact of our lifestyle or find ourselves faced with a plethora of labels and contradictory information, which makes it too complex to figure out what choices to make in order to consume less energy and diminish our impact on the environment.
This workshop aims encourage the participants to pay attention to their daily choices by providing clear and convincing information!
Benoit Molineaux from Terrawatt will animate this workshop. It will begin with a discussion on the meaning of sustainable development through examination of different definitions. Participants will then be given the opportunity to see how they fit into sustainable development, thanks to an evaluation of their footprint. Finally, Benoit Molineaux will expose different ways to promote sustainable development, in our every day life or by becoming actively engaged in Agenda 21 activities.
TERRAWATT
The association Terrawatt is devoted to training and counselling in the energy field. One of their projects are the "Energy Operations" they have been conducting in schools for the past ten years. This original approach combines an educational program for the pupils and a kind of mini-energy-audit of the school's buildling, which can result in concrete savings.
